Erin Knowlton, PMHNP-BC

I began my career in healthcare as a paramedic in EMS, which led me to pursue a nursing career in a busy emergency department. During my time there, I saw firsthand how many individuals with mental health issues were not receiving the care they needed. This experience motivated me to become a PMHNP - a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.

I have a huge passion for helping the mental health population. I often feel we just need someone who will not judge us, and will listen to what is going on, and get us back to the person we want to feel like again. I have a very upbeat, wanting to help personality and wish the best for everyone. Our goals will be to talk about what is going on, figure out what the right treatment options are, and get you back to feeling like the person you want to be. I am currently only offering medication management, but work very closely with many therapists, to ensure you are getting the well rounded care you need.

What is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner?

A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is a specialized healthcare provider who is licensed to diagnose and treat mental health disorders. PMHNPs work with individuals across the lifespan, providing psychiatric evaluations, developing personalized treatment plans, and offering medication management services. They are trained to work with individuals and families who are experiencing a wide range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and substance use disorders. With their specialized expertise in medication management, PMHNPs play a critical role in helping individuals achieve and maintain mental wellness.

What is Medication Management?

Medication management is an essential aspect of psychiatric treatment that involves the use of medications to treat mental health conditions. It is often used in conjunction with therapy and other forms of treatment to provide comprehensive care. The goal of medication management is to achieve symptom relief, improve quality of life, and prevent relapse.

During medication management, a healthcare provider will carefully evaluate a patient's symptoms and medical history to determine the most appropriate medication and dosage. They will also monitor the patient's response to the medication and adjust the treatment plan as needed. It is important for patients to communicate openly with their provider about any side effects or concerns they may have about their medication. With effective medication management, patients can experience significant improvements in their mental health and overall well-being.
